The Connection's annual budget of about $215,000 is funded through a variety sources:

The Nebraska Homeless Assistance Program has been granting around $52,000 for the past several years. This funding comes in part from a small tax on real estate transactions in the state and in part from federal Emergency Shelter Grant Program funds, administered by NHAP. Funds are applied for on an annual basis and are subject to the number of applications, the effectiveness of our programs and the amount of funding available.

The Thrift Connection, our thrift store, has been contributing over $60,000 a year to the shelter. The store is run entirely by volunteers and honors vouchers  from The Connection, The Salvation Army, the Rape and Domestic Abuse Program and the Red Cross.

The Hoggy Doggy Shadow Splash has been contributing $15-25,000 each year recently. It is a whacked out fundraiser created and hosted by attorneys Russ Jones and Jim Paloucek, wherein crowds of unthinking people pay at least $100.00 for the privilege of jumping into the frigid South Platte River on the Friday closest to Ground Hog Day. Next year, the proceeds will be shared with other organizations.

Mid Plains United Way has been contributing over $20,000 annually to our Case Management program. Contributions depend on UW's success in their campaign each fall, the number of agencies applying for funding, and the UW Board's assessment of our programs.

The remainder of our operational funding typically comes from individuals, businesses, churches, clubs, fundraisers, program fees paid by our clients, and "other."
